Is Your Home Prepared for the Next Big Rain?

The rainy season is upon us in the Pacific Northwest, which means its time to prepare! Use the few days of sunshine we’ll have this winter to get your home ready for the exceedingly common rainy days ahead. Here are our tips to prepare your home!

#1: Clean the Gutter

When your gutter gets clogged, water builds up and adds force to your roof, potentially causing leaks. Avoid this by cleaning your gutter regularly. Make sure there are no gaps along the seams. Lastly, ensure that your gutter is attached correctly to your house by your brackets.

#2: Be Mindful of Trees

In a thunderstorm, high winds and heavy rain can cause an overhanging branch to fall and potentially cause damage to your property. Keep this from becoming a severe problem by cleaning up your tree and trimming precarious tree limbs before they have a chance to fall and cause damage.

#3: Seal Your Windows

This tip can help prevent rainwater from entering your home while also ensuring that your home stays warm and cozy. You have a variety of options when it comes to this, so shop around for what you think is best. Caulking and weatherstripping are two of the more common ways to seal your windows.

#4: Do Your Maintainance Now

Make sure your home’s vital systems are in good shape before the next storm hits. You don’t want to realize your heater isn’t working well when you’re forced inside for a weekend due to a storm.

With the amount of rain we get, there’s always the possibility of something going wrong. Just one roof leak can cause terrible damage to your home. If our preventative tips aren’t able to fully protect your home from water damage, AWR Restoration & Cleaning has got you covered.
